An agent can guess

Almost everything else on this site can in principle be inferred. A machine can work out what your page is about and parse your headings. It cannot invent an author.
Empty Person schema weighs nothing
No bio, no credentials, no topics, nothing for a rater or a retrieval system to weigh. Google's own Search Quality Rater Guidelines are built around exactly that judgement.
A display widget is not a signal
Most author box plugins render a card and stop. View source and search for "@type":"Person". If it is absent, the information exists for humans only.

Nobody can promise that. What it does is remove a specific reason to discount you, which is a different and more defensible thing.
It does not verify anything
You type the credentials and the plugin publishes them. Inventing credentials is worse than having none.
