AI SEO audit for WordPress

An AI SEO audit, in the order
the checks actually depend
on each other.

Most AI SEO audits are a list of unrelated tips. This is a dependency chain: if layer one fails, nothing below it matters. Run it free on any URL, then turn the WordPress parts on with RankReady in about five minutes.

Why order beats score

Auditing out of order
spends effort on the wrong layer.

A site can have perfect schema and stay invisible because its server refuses the crawler. A site can be perfectly reachable and never quoted because every sentence runs forty words. The sequence is the method.

The panel closing the RankReady checker report, headed that 5 of the findings are a WordPress setting rather than a rebuild, explaining that RankReady handles the crawler and format layer and runs alongside Yoast, Rank Math, All in One SEO and SEOPress with no duplicate schema and exactly one canonical.

Fix layer one before anything else

Robots rules for 29 named AI crawlers, Content Signals, whether /.well-known/ is blocked at the server, and whether a declared crawler gets the same response as a browser.

Then make yourself cheap to read

Markdown negotiation, q-values, a 406 on unsupported types, Vary: Accept as one merged line, whether your CDN honours it, and payload weight on the agent path.

Then make yourself unambiguous

Article, FAQPage and Person schema, exactly one canonical, sequential headings, visible dates, and whether two SEO plugins are writing the same tag twice.

The five layers

Three are settings.
One is writing.
One needs your server.

On a WordPress site most of layers one to three are toggles under AI Visibility, and layer five is a log RankReady keeps for you. Layer four is prose, and no plugin can do that honestly.

The findings list from the RankReady AI readiness checker, each row carrying a FAIL or GAP badge and a layer label: /.well-known/ blocked at server level, a bot versus browser access gap where GPTBot receives 18,159 bytes against 721,973 for a browser, most-specific-group exposure affecting 20 named crawlers, and two llms.txt findings on sitemap match and context budget.

Layer 1 · Reach

Can an agent get to you at all. If this fails, stop and fix it before reading anything else in the report.

Layer 2 · Read

Can it parse you cheaply. Content negotiation, correct content types, cache behaviour, and how much of its context your theme eats.

Layer 3 · Understand

Can it work out what this page is. Structured data, one canonical, heading order, and dates that agree with each other.

Layer 4 · Quote

Sentence length, one claim per sentence, key facts inside the first 30 percent of the page, and heading count against the penalty curve.

Layer 5 · Measure

Which AI crawlers actually came. Not answerable from outside your server, which is why every external checker stops at layer four.

An owner per failure

A plugin setting, a server config, or a writing change. Being told to fix something you cannot fix is worse than not being told.

Honest scope

An AI audit
is not an SEO audit.

Ranking and being quoted are increasingly separate outcomes, which is the reason this list exists at all.

Only about a quarter of cited URLs rank in the organic top ten

Published analysis puts it at 23.05 percent overall and 4.2 percent for ChatGPT. An SEO audit optimises for blue links, this optimises for being reachable and quotable.

A good score is not a promise

It means the reasons an agent cannot use you have been removed. Whether it then chooses to is not a setting.

Layer four cannot be automated

Sentence shape is writing. RankReady measures it and shows you the longest offenders. Fixing it is yours.

Re-run it after four specific events

A theme change, a host migration, a caching change and an SEO plugin update. Those are what silently break layers one and two.

Questions people actually ask

The honest answers,
before you have to ask.

Q. How is this different from an SEO audit?

An SEO audit optimises for ranking in blue links. This optimises for being reachable and quotable by an agent. Only 23.05 percent of AI cited URLs rank in the organic top ten.

Q. Can I do this without the plugin?

Yes. Every check is verifiable with curl and view source. The free scan does it in about thirty seconds instead of an afternoon.

Q. How often should I re-run it?

After any theme change, host migration, caching change or SEO plugin update. Those are the four things that silently break the first two layers.

Q. Does a good audit score mean I will get cited?

No, and nothing can promise that. It means the reasons an agent cannot use you have been removed.

Q. Will RankReady conflict with my SEO plugin?

No. It runs alongside Yoast, Rank Math, AIOSEO and SEOPress. Tested against all four on WordPress 7.1: no duplicate schema, exactly one canonical, nothing of theirs touched.

Q. How long does the fixing take?

About five minutes for the settings level layers, from your dashboard, with no developer and no server access.
